Meta Muse is the personal AI agent Meta is building — it runs errands across the apps and services you connect to it, and it lives both in its own app and inside WhatsApp. Connect WhatsMCP and Muse can reach **WhatsApp itself**, on a number you already use: catch up on everything that came in, reply in your own words, pull up a contact, or turn a thread into a task — in plain language, without you copying anything across.

This guide shows how to connect WhatsApp to **Meta Muse** as a custom connector: what you need, adding the connector with OAuth or an API key, what Muse can do once it's connected, prompts worth trying first, troubleshooting and FAQs.

## Why connect Meta Muse to WhatsApp

- **One assistant, your real messages.** Muse already acts across your apps; WhatsMCP lets it read and send WhatsApp on your own number, not a copy or a screenshot.
- **Catch up in seconds.** "What did I miss on WhatsApp since last night?" becomes one summary across every number you've linked.
- **Reply in your own voice.** Muse reads the thread first, so the draft fits the conversation — and waits for you to approve the send.
- **It stays under your control.** Access is scoped to your workspace, Muse pauses before anything sensitive, and you can revoke it on its own at any time.

## Before you start

- **A WhatsMCP workspace.** [Sign up free](https://console.whatsmcp.com/register?utm_source=blog&utm_medium=article&utm_campaign=connect-whatsapp-to-meta-muse&utm_content=before-you-start).
- **A linked number.**
  - *Personal number:* at **Add a number** (setup opens it; later it's **Fleet → Add Number**) choose **Personal WhatsApp → Link a device via QR** and scan the code from **WhatsApp → Settings → Linked devices → Link a device**. The first Personal number in a workspace takes the free line automatically; any other stays suspended until you choose a plan.
  - *Official Business number:* choose **WhatsApp Business → Connect with Facebook**, then a Business plan — your workspace's first Business plan starts with a 7-day free trial. See [Connect WhatsApp Business API to Claude](/blog/connect-whatsapp-business-api-to-claude).
- **The endpoint:** `https://api.whatsmcp.com/mcp` (Streamable HTTP).
- **Meta Muse with custom connectors.** Muse is rolling out in stages (US adults first). If you don't see custom-connector settings yet, they haven't reached your account — the steps below apply once they do.

## Add WhatsMCP as a custom connector in Muse

In Muse, open the settings for custom connectors and add a new one pointing at the WhatsMCP endpoint:

```
https://api.whatsmcp.com/mcp
```

Then choose how it authenticates — sign in with your WhatsMCP account, or paste an API key.

### Sign in with WhatsMCP (OAuth, recommended)

If Muse offers a sign-in for the connector, add the URL with no credential and let Muse run the standard MCP OAuth flow: it discovers WhatsMCP's sign-in, registers itself, and opens your browser so you can approve the connection in the WhatsMCP console. Nothing secret is stored in Muse, and you can revoke Muse on its own at **Console → Connections**.

![The five steps of WhatsMCP's OAuth sign-in: add the URL, discover metadata, register the client, approve in the console, receive a scoped token](https://content.whatsmcp.com/uploads/whatsmcp_oauth_sign_in_flow_689ce49906.webp)

### Or paste an API key

If you'd rather use a key — or the connector asks for one — create a key at **Console → API keys** and paste it as the connector's credential. Muse can send it as an `Authorization: Bearer <key>` header or as `X-API-Key: <key>`; either is accepted. Paste the whole value exactly as shown — keys are displayed once, with no surrounding quotes or spaces. Mint one key per connector so you can revoke it on its own.

### Check that it's connected

Once the connector is saved, Muse lists the WhatsApp tools it can call. Ask it: *"Using WhatsMCP, list my WhatsApp accounts."* It should call `wa_list_accounts` and show your linked numbers.

## What Muse can do once connected

WhatsMCP is a hosted [Model Context Protocol](https://modelcontextprotocol.io) server for WhatsApp — the open standard Muse uses to call outside tools. Once it's connected, Muse calls tools such as `wa_list_messages` or `wa_send_message` directly instead of guessing, and shows you what it did. Every call is scoped to your workspace, and your plan decides which tools Muse sees — up to **43** on a Personal number and **17** on a Business number, out of **46** in all.

![The 46 WhatsMCP tools grouped by category: accounts and plan, messaging, message operations, contacts, groups and channels, group admin, blocklist, calls and AI voice, webhooks](https://content.whatsmcp.com/uploads/whatsmcp_46_whatsapp_tools_703055b1ef.webp)

In practice you can ask Muse to:

- **Catch up** on everything that came in overnight, across every number you've linked, in one summary.
- **Reply in your own voice** — Muse reads the thread first, so the answer fits the conversation.
- **Look things up** — the address someone sent, the file from last week, who a number belongs to.
- **Organise people** — create groups, add or remove members, post announcements, share invite links.
- **Keep an eye on calls** — check who called and when, across your numbers.

Muse pauses for your approval before anything it treats as sensitive, such as sending a message, so nothing leaves your number without you confirming it.

## Prompts to try

**1. Morning catch-up.**

> "Summarise every WhatsApp chat I missed since last night, and flag anything that needs a reply today."

`wa_list_messages` and `wa_get_chat` read the threads; Muse hands you the summary.

**2. Reply in context.**

> "Read my thread with Sam and draft a reply confirming Friday at 7 — show me before you send."

`wa_get_chat` reads the conversation, then `wa_send_message` once you approve.

**3. Find what someone sent.**

> "What's the address Priya sent me last week? Pull the exact message."

`wa_list_messages` and `wa_get_message` return the stored records.

**4. Organise a group.**

> "Create a group called 'Trip logistics' and add everyone from my 'Weekend trip' chat."

`wa_create_group` and `wa_update_participants` do the work; Muse confirms who was added.

## Troubleshooting

- **The tool list is empty, or "couldn't connect."** Check the endpoint is exactly `https://api.whatsmcp.com/mcp`, and that your key is current and shows as **active** at **Console → API keys**. Paste the key on its own, with no quotes or extra spaces.
- **401 / "invalid credentials."** The key wasn't accepted. Re-copy the whole value (keys are shown once), and make sure it went into the connector's credential field.
- **A tool is missing.** It isn't in your plan, or it's Personal-only on a Business number. `wa_get_plan` and **Console → Help** show what's included.
- **No custom-connector settings in Muse.** Muse is still rolling out; custom connectors may not have reached your account or region yet.

## Good habits

- **Use a test number** while you're getting set up.
- **Treat the key like a password** — anyone who holds it can act on your number until you revoke it at **Console → API keys**.
- **Personal numbers** connect as linked devices, which falls outside WhatsApp's terms of service; for customer messaging, use an official Business number.
- **Review access** at **Console → Connections** and **Console → API keys**.

## FAQ

### Is Meta Muse available yet?

Muse began rolling out to adults in the US, in its own app and inside WhatsApp, with more regions to follow. Custom connectors may not be in your account yet; when they are, the steps above apply.

### Do I need to be a developer?

No. You paste one URL and either sign in or paste a key — there's no file to edit and nothing to install.

### OAuth or an API key — which should I use?

Either. OAuth is the simplest if Muse offers a sign-in for the connector; an API key is handy if it asks for a credential directly. Both end up at the same scoped access.

### Can my other apps use the same number?

Yes. Your production code can use the REST API or webhooks with their own key; Muse's connection is independent and revocable on its own.

### Does this work with other assistants?

Yes — any client that speaks Streamable HTTP MCP. See the guides for [Claude](/blog/connect-whatsmcp-to-claude), [ChatGPT](/blog/connect-whatsmcp-to-chatgpt), [Cursor](/blog/connect-whatsmcp-to-cursor) and [Grok](/blog/connect-whatsmcp-to-grok).
